Synopsis: Heather Gordon was born to a privileged life as Scottish nobility, Duncan Mackenzie was too but never knew life as anyone other than a rugged Highlander. In a plot to save Mary, Queen of Scots, Heather and Duncan are thrown together. Heather must teach Duncan the manners befitting nobility and despite everything are drawn to one another. Both must survive the daring plot and decide whether love alone is enough.

My Review: It has been a while since I've read an enjoyable romance based in the Highlands of Scotland, but As High As the Heavens by Kathleen Morgan was just that, an enjoyable read! Many thanks to Lori @ Some of My Favorite Things for sending this book to me!

I liked the story line immediately, a plot to rescue the queen was sure to be interesting. Heather Gordon was a likable heroine who wasn't a snob even though she was upper class. Duncan Mackenzie was the stereotypical Highlander, braw (fine looking), muscular, and stubborn...but I liked that! I thoroughly enjoyed the tension between the two. Most of the story was centered around Heather teaching Duncan the ways of nobility but it didn't bore me. The plot to rescue the queen played out a whole lot less exciting than I was expecting but it was a romance not a suspense so I guess I shouldn't have been expecting too much detail as far as that went. I'll definitely be looking for more books by Kathleen Morgan.

  2. I have 6 books by Kathleen Morgan - and I'm a big fan of Scottish Romances. I don't know why. I picked a hubby who is the total opposite of all that. He gives in to my every whim and is so sentimental - and you read about these stubborn, big, beasts of men who end of being the heroes of these romances... I don't know. I do like it though.

I also have mostly historical fiction on my shelves and all my story ideas are contemporary. So sometimes you just enjoy what you enjoy. This book has been on my wanted list for quite a while. It's nice to hear a good review of it. :o)

  3. I really like Kathleen Morgan...I was so sorry to read about a year ago or so that she's not actively writing (at this time, anyway). She's a fantastic author.

  4. Hi Lee thanks for stopping by...my shelves are mostly full of historicals too. At the moment I think this is the only Scottish romance I have LOL I need more!!!!!

Hi Ruth! At the back of As High as the Heavens she indicated that she might write Colin's story (Duncan's brother)...I so wish she would if she ever decides to write again!
