On This Valentine's Day, Book & TV Boyfriends For 2015

Happy Valentine's Day, dear readers. I hope you all are enjoying time spent with that special someone, be it a boyfriend or girlfriend, husband or wife, or in my case a good book. Yeah. I'm a single lady, so my only boyfriend is in whatever novel I happen to be reading or TV show I'm bingeing on.

In honor of book and TV boyfriends everywhere, I thought I'd post a few prospects -- that is new stories that appear to be promising for those of us wanting to spend a little time in fictional worlds with favorite characters. I'm always on the lookout for a fun romance or a heart-wrenching drama to pass the time, so please post new books or movies that you're looking forward to in the comments section. Here's my top 5 in no particular order.

5. The Mistress of Tall Acre by Laura Frantz (September 2015, Revell Publishers)

From Amazon:
In the aftermath of the American Revolution a destitute young woman agrees to a marriage of convenience and becomes Mistress of Tall Acre. But when secrets from her husband's past are revealed, loyalties and ties are torn asunder.

Ever since I read her debut story, The Frontiersman's Daughter, I've been hooked on Frantz's heroes. All heart and oozing masculinity, one can't help but fall in love. Every summer I wait for her next story, and I'm never disappointed!

4. Mist of Midnight by Sandra Byrd (March 2015, Howard Books)

From Amazon:
In the first of a brand-new series set in Victorian England, a young woman returns home from India after the death of her family to discover her identity and inheritance are challenged by the man who holds her future in his hands.

Rebecca Ravenshaw, daughter of missionaries, spent most of her life in India. Following the death of her family in the Indian Mutiny, Rebecca returns to claim her family estate in Hampshire, England. Upon her return, people are surprised to see her...and highly suspicious. Less than a year earlier, an imposter had arrived with an Indian servant and assumed not only Rebecca's name, but her home and incomes.

That pretender died within months of her arrival; the servant fled to London as the young woman was hastily buried at midnight. The locals believe that perhaps she, Rebecca, is the real imposter. Her home and her father's investments reverted to a distant relative, the darkly charming Captain Luke Whitfield, who quickly took over. Against her best intentions, Rebecca begins to fall in love with Luke, but she is forced to question his motives—does he love her or does he just want Headbourne House? If Luke is simply after the property, as everyone suspects, will she suffer a similar fate as the first “Rebecca”?

A captivating Gothic love story set against a backdrop of intrigue and danger, Mist of Midnight will leave you breathless.

I love a good Gothic me, and Byrd ignites the page with her mysterious men and good girl heroines. This one is a must read if you like a touch of danger and spookiness.

3. Crimson Peak starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam (October 2015, in Theaters)

Missing the bad boy, Jax from Sons of Anarchy? Apparently Hunnam has traded in his cut for a cravat and boy does it suit him! We already know what Tom can do in a waistcoat, so it should be fun to see what this horror/romance genre brings us in the way of boyfriends in period dress!

2. Grantchester (Airing now on PBS)

Great news! This has already started airing on PBS and goodness me, it's a delight. Sidney Chambers is indeed a perfect example of the tortured hero. He's a vicar so you wouldn't think there'd be too much going on, but woo--eee! WWII and the engagement of his best friend really get to a guy. To top it off he takes it on to help the local police solve murders. There are many a furrowed brow in this series just aching to be soothed.

1. Poldark starring Aidan Turner (June 2015, PBS)

Errrm okay. What is with the single word titles? They are always the best series's, at least from my experience. Granchester, Sherlock, and now Poldark. I really don't know much about it other than the series is a remake of the '70s BBC series that was terrifically popular, also it's based on books! Yay! Aidan Turner stars as Ross Poldark who is jilted by his lover in favor of his cousin right after the Revolutionary War. According to the preview, he also rescues a girl and her dog from a dog fight. My heart is already melted. Hopefully the miniseries lives up to the fabulous clips I've seen so far.
