Seeking to escape his melancholy, he takes refuge at one of Victorian society’s most notorious house parties. The Story: In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy little English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code; little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same. In 2016, Eddie is fully grown, and thinks he’s put his past behind him. But then he gets a letter in the mail, containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank . . . until one of them turns up dead. That’s when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago. Expertly alternating between flashbacks and the present day, The Chalk Man is the very best kind of suspense novel, one where every character is wonderful

Movies Based on Books (Part 2): My Review of Forever My Girl (2018)

Forever My Girl (2018) Visit the Forever My Girl website to learn more and find showtimes. Even though I'm a totally sappy, fuzz bucket when it comes to romance novels, I don't really like the contemporary offerings in the romance film genre, mostly because the only options are cheesy Hallmark movies. Silver screen offerings are all depressing Nicholas Sparks, big budget movies with megawatt casts, with little to no chemistry. I'm a sucker for the rare historical, mostly I think, because the romantic aspects are a little more plausible than say, meeting someone in an elevator and falling in love in the space of a week.  It's kinda rare for me to want to rave and cheer about anything contemporary romance if I'm completely honest. Alert: Major rave straight ahead! I really enjoyed Forever My Girl a lot more than I thought I would. It started out with just about every romance cliche I dread in a movie- an abandoned lover, a secret child, you name it buuuuut,

I hope I can explain that after all this time. I still want her to be my
