The Story:
Diana is ready to begin a new chapter in her life—until the husband she believed dead reappears at her engagement party.

Diana Brennan came west on the orphan train and was given a home with a loving couple who cherished and spoiled her. At 17, she fell hard for Tyson Applegate, the son of a wealthy mine owner. After a whirlwind courtship and marriage, Tyson took off for adventures around the world, including fighting with the Rough Riders in Cuba. Receiving no word from him in years, Diana’s infatuation with her dashing husband died an ugly death, and she is ready to move past the old pain and marry again, just as soon as Tyson is declared legally dead.

But when Tyson returns, claiming to be a changed man, he wants to reunite with his wife and run for the senate. While Diana suspects the election is his real reason for wanting her by his side, she agrees to maintain his home and to campaign with him, but when it is over, win or lose, she wants her freedom.

He agrees with one condition—she must give him a chance to change her mind about him.

My Thoughts:
It's not everyday you come across a story that starts out with a supposedly deceased husband showing up to his wife's engagement party. Naturally, with a cover blurb that teases like this book did, I just had to read it and I'm so glad I did. Robin Lee Hatcher's romances leave nothing to be desired. Beloved is a real gem for readers who enjoy romance without the fuss!

In this story, which can be read without having read the previous two in the series, Diana is just beginning to start over with a new fiance after the death of her estranged husband. Little does she know that Tyson Applegate and God have other plans for her life that don't involve a new husband. Tyson, showing up out of the blue, on the biggest night of Diana's life is more than unexpected -- he's flat out unwelcome. Determined to right the wrongs he committed in the past, he makes a pact with Diana, to grant her the freedom that she desires with hopes of showing her just how much he's changed.

This book isn't spectacularly dramatic or heartbreaking like a lot of the romances that I tend to read, but surprisingly I found myself enjoying it. It was predictable and I admit, I did roll my eyes a time of two, but I just couldn't resist turning the pages to see how the love triangle was going to end up! Diana is likable in spite of being a bit too naive where men are concerned -- especially after she suffered such a heartbreak at the hands of Tyson at such a young age. I would have thought that she would have been a little more cautious about starting a relationship with Brook. Tyson is definitely the alpha male type except when it comes to Diana. He can't resist giving in to her demands, even if they include taking in flea-bitten mongrels or orphaned children. It was cute! Their story is the perfect book to read if you want the Christian romance without a load of confusing characters or a whole lot of history. Beloved is the book if you want to pass the time with a light-hearted romance on a cold winter day!
