The Story:
Miranda Woodruff has it all. At least, that's how it looks when she's starring in her homebuilding television show, From the Ground Up. So when her network begins to talk about making cuts, she'll do anything to boost ratings and save her show--even if it means pretending to be married to a man who's definitely not the fiance who ran out on her three years ago.

When a handsome reporter starts shadowing Miranda's every move, all his digging into her personal life brings him a little too close to the truth--and to her. Can the girl whose entire identity is wrapped up in her on-screen persona finally find the nerve to set the record straight? And if she does, will the life she's built come crashing down just as she's found a love to last?

My Thoughts:
Where do I begin other than to say that this story was a marked improvement over most contemporary books I've read this year. Although I'm not a fan of home improvement or DIY TV shows (they run on a loop at my house...ugh!) this story was adorable! Some contemporary set novels just don't have a modern feel but this one was totally with it. It is Christian fiction, so if you're not a fan of the genre you might not like it. I felt, at times, that it was a little forceful with the message, but nothing that put me off from reading the story or would keep me from recommending it to readers who like clean romances.

Miranda was a three dimensional and authentic heroine. I felt that her story could have been one from the hosts on the DIY Network. I loved the whole "behind the scenes" peeks on the set of a home improvement series. It was a little like Janice Thompson's Backstage Pass series in that the goings on of television were revealed as well as what happened in the character's lives away from their jobs. When a certain reporter stepped into the scene, I'll admit, I was a little bit skeptical, but I loved how he fit into the love square...yes a square not a triangle, Miranda was one popular chickie!

I am really anxious to see what happens next in this series, especially where Miranda's faux beau is concerned. He had better get his own book is all I'm sayin'. ;-) If you're looking for an interesting, and somewhat complicated, romance to pass the time, then I suggest you give Made to Last a look see!
