Biking the Great Allegheny Passage

I just got back from a 30 mile ride on the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail (seriously, if you love wildlife and coal/steel history, this trail is AWESOME!) and am proud of my accomplishment. I know, I know, a guy passed me on the trail wearing a shirt bragging that he biked 12,000 miles in 2009 so 30 might not seem like a big deal, but it totally is for a couch potato like me! I've never went for more than 15 miles, so doubling up and going 30 is huge! It's time I got a little more fit and since I don't have a gym membership and I don't like to run or jog, biking was the answer. I hope to hit the trails more often and hopefully go even further next time.

What are you doing to stay healthy this summer? Have you met the fitness goals that you have set for yourself? I'd love to hear them!

  1. Good for you! I don't do much of anything honestly, and it's something I should change. I struggle with the idea of riding our country roads let along biking 30 miles. Clearly, I need to hop to it. ;)

    1. Welllll, I guess you could say I kind of did it the easy way. The bike trails are almost completely level so no hills or mountains for this girl. I did cheat a bit. There's a hill on the paved road that we have to take to get back to our house from the trails and I walked up! I can't imagine pedaling it!!!!

  2. That's awesome, Renee!! I bet the trail is beautiful, and that's a great accomplishment. :) I've totally got to get out more, especially now that I'm working 8-5 in an office (not that I wasn't sitting in my room at the computer too often before this, LOL). But I'm in a gorgeous area, and there are trails - so now I just need to be brave and actually do some exploring!

    1. It is a gorgeous trail. You follow the river almost the entire time and get to see all the old coal mine areas and coke ovens and even a historical train caboose! It's really something! I'll just bet it would be awesome to ride the trails in your neck of the woods too. :-)

  3. Renee....you go, girl!!! What an accomplishment!! I've been trying to pay more attention to my health lately. A started a new diet last week that I hope will not only help me lose a couple of pounds, but will help me get better food into my body. Just gotta kick it up to the next notch and start working out on a regular basis. :)

Keep up the great work! I bet you felt amazing when you finished!

    2. You can do it!!! I didn't think I could resist sweet tea and bread, either, but I haven't had any since July 1st! :) I have a friend that started on the same day as me saying she wasn't going to eat pizza. She was doing great until she had a slice last night. :(

    3. That's my problem, I can't not eat 2 or 3 slices at a time. I love pizza too much to resist!!! :-P
