Litfuse Blog Tour: To Win Her Favor by Tamera Alexander
To Win Her Favor A Belle Meade Plantation Novel by Tamera Alexander Copyright 2015 Zondervan ISBN: 9780310291077 |
A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. But the one man who could help her has vowed to stay away from thoroughbred racing forever.
An Irishman far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He’s come to Nashville for a fresh start, hoping to buy land and begin farming, all while determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. But starting over proves harder than he’d wagered, especially when Maggie Linden’s father makes him an offer he shouldn’t accept yet cannot possibly refuse.
Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the inaugural Peyton Stakes, the richest race ever run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance—and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder—Maggie’s father, aging, yet wily as ever, makes a barter. His agreement includes one tiny, troublesome detail––Maggie must marry a man she’s never met. A man she never would have chosen for herself.

My Thoughts:
Let's take a second to think about romance novels and our favorite types of romances. Some of us like historical, some prefer contemporary and some enjoy sweet while others prefer sexy. I normally wouldn't use sexy to describe Christian fiction, but even though it isn't always overt, lately I've found a few books in the genre to be more passionate. I don't mean with graphic, open door love scenes, but rather a glance or a touch described just so on the page that sends a shiver down the spine. To me, the subtle details are sexy.
Tamera Alexander's latest book To Win Her Favor has just the right amount of romance, and when combined with a very interesting historical topic, horse racing, it makes for an absolutely wonderful book. It's one of my favorites of the year. I'm a HUGE fan of marriage of convenience stories, but have been disappointed by the lack of quality romance novels that address these types of relationships. It kind of seems as though Christian fiction writers have stepped away from the topic which is sad.
To Win Her Favor is one of those books that does not disappoint. With her knack for penning heartfelt stories and likeable heroines, Alexander has once again proven why she's a best-selling author. Maggie and Cullen's story evolves at the perfect pace. A tenuous partnership at best at first, it takes time and more than a few bumps in the road for them to reach an understanding. I feel that while some of the themes may be a little dated, the love story still struck a chord with the romantic in me. Overall, this is a fabulous story on par with my favorite Tamera Alexander book, Rekindled.
