The Story:
Regina Beswick was born to be a princess. But she's content to be a small-town girl, running a classic auto restoration shop, unaware a secret destiny awaits her. One that will leap from the pages of her grandmother's hand-painted book of fairytales. Tanner Burkhardt is the stoic Minister of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg. When he is tasked to retrieve the long-lost princess, he must overcome his fear of failure in order to secure his nation's future---and his own. Yet lurking in the political shadows is a fierce opponent with sinister plans to abolish the throne forever. Overwhelmed with opposition, Regina must decide if she's destined to restore old cars or an ancient nation. Together---with a little divine intervention---Regina and Tanner discover the truth of her heritage and the healing power of true love.

My Thoughts:
Almost all of my girlfriends had dreams of living a fairy-tale growing up. While we now know that odds are we won't marry a prince or move to a castle, we can still dream a little and live the fantasy through the books we read. Reading this book was a little bit like reading a grown up, Christian version of Disney's Cinderella that we read as kids.

Never before have I read a story where I felt a connection with the main character so quickly. Reggie Beswisk played "princess" with her gram as a girl and went on to restore classic cars as an adult. With a thing for muscle cars and a penchant for football and racing and a good ol' boy attitude, we could be BFFs. Reggie is a pretty levelheaded gal, she doesn't jump at the chance to become a princess and she doesn't jump the gun when it comes to love either. I loved the fact that she weighed (and prayed!) everything carefully. Half of the romance heroines these days, across all the romance genres, are silly and therefore annoying. Tanner Burkhardt the Minister of Culture of Hessenberg, had quite a lot on his plate. He handled the entire entail situation with Reggie well, but his personal life, not so much. I was a little frustrated that he sort of denied his past and kept it hidden, but in the end, his character was redeemed in my eyes.

Not since The Princess Diaries have I been so enamored with a book. Even though I haven't read the first book in this series, Once Upon a Prince, I'll just bet that "Royal Wedding" is one of the most fun and romantic series' on the market.  Each time I read a book by Rachel Hauck, I fall a little bit more in love with good, old-fashioned love stories!

Side note: Reggie's '71 Dodge Challenger at the beginning of the story was mentioned as being a "Slant Six" but a few pages later it was an 8 cylinder, 440. Hmmmm...did Reggie drop a new big block in her car or did I catch an error? Either way, it doesn't detract from the rest of the story unless you're a gearhead like me. ;-)

~ My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars ~
