The Story:
Desperate times create desperate people. And desperate people are dangerous . . .

Though Emily Hunt comes from a family of cops, the relatively quiet life of a high school teacher suits her just fine. She's saving up to buy a house, slowly moving forward after her brother's death, and settling into a life she loves. So the last person she wants to spend time with is Mason Taylor.

An undercover cop, Mason is enemy number one as far as her family is concerned. His involvement in the death of Emily's brother is still up in the air, and now he expects her to help him with a case. Mason has been working with one of her students, Rafael Cerda, whose brother has been kidnapped by a drug cartel. And with time running out to meet their demands, Rafael is getting desperate.

Emily will have to draw on all of her strength to handle what happens next . . .

Fatal Exchange will draw you into a complex matrix of intertwining lives, unraveling secrets, and unexpected love.

My Thoughts:
Fatal Exchange is yet another wonderful suspense novel from the pen of Lisa Harris. Just as in the first installment of the Southern Crimes series, loads of nail-biting suspense and breathtaking situations abound in this book. What's unusual about this book is that the thrills start right away and don't let up until the very end. I can honestly say that this is one of the most edge-of-your-seat books that I've read in both the Christian and general markets combined. There's barely a moment to catch your breath. I just finished binge watching Fox's Lie to Me TV series on Netflix and went into this book expecting to be a bit bored, but I was not! That's no lie. ;-) Fatal Exchange is definitely a book for readers who enjoy their stories heavy on the action and light on the romance. While there is certainly chemistry between Emily Hunt and Mason Taylor, the integrity for lack of a better word, isn't sacrificed with a HEA all wrapped up with a nice bow at the end of the story. If you're a fan of romance, don't let this scare you away, there's still a little of the mushy gushy. ;-) Since this is Christian fiction there is some prayer and mention of faith, but not in a distracting or "preachy" way. Lisa Harris has a great thing going with this series, and I can't wait to read what happens next!
