My Review:
Civil War fiction seems to be hard to come by nowadays, at least for me. I really enjoy it and it is one of the reasons why I chose to pursue a degree in history. Unfortunately I can't remember the last series that I read and enjoyed that isn't over 5 years old! That is terrible! I was so glad to have found this new series by author, Andrea Boeshaar. Unwilling Warrior is the first in a three book series featuring the McCabe family living and loving during the War Between the States.

I did enjoy this book even though there wasn't any battlefield action, it was more about the romance that anything. I really like series's such as T. Elizabeth Renich's Shadowcreek Chronicle's which followed one family throughout the war and included battles, field hospitals and family drama and Michael Phillips's Shenandoah Sisters series. However the characters of Valerie Fontaine and Ben McCabe make this a really nice Civil War romance. Valerie is sweet if not a bit naive at first and Ben is handsome and all charm and McCabe confidence. I also liked what I saw of Ben's siblings and hope to see more of them in future books. If you're looking for a light and sweet Christian romance Unwilling Warrior will be a book you might like to read.

    I've been wondering about this, looks like it will definitely be going on my to read list. I was amused when you mentioned there were no battle scenes. ;) I also have a history degree, but battles were definitely never my thing.
