From the publisher:
One man lives to see her dead--the other is fighting to keep her alive.

Twelve years ago, forensic anthropologist Jamie Cash survived a brutal kidnapping. After years of therapy, she has made a life for herself--though one that is haunted by memories of her terrifying past. She finally lets herself believe that she can have a close relationship with a man, when signs start appearing that point to one frightening fact--her attacker is back and ready to finish the job he started all those years ago.

Can she escape his grasp a second time? And will she ever be able to let down her guard enough to find true love?

My Review:
First I have to say how much I enjoyed this story, right from the very first page I was hooked. Starting out at a crime scene with multiple human remains is sure to capture anyone's attention and it sure did catch mine. I really flew through this book just because I desperately wanted to know what happened next. The reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars is because I figured out who the "bad guy" was very early on. (SPOILER-ISH: highlight to read) The other characters were just so nice and likable that when said character showed up I felt he was just a bit "off" and I was right, wowee what a creep he was! (END OF POTENTIAL SPOILER-ISHNESS)If you don't get chills from this book I don't know what will give them to you. I can honestly say that I've never read a Christian fiction book with such a scary villain. Part of the reason could be that he really liked to get inside his victims head's and break them down psychologically before they met their physical demise at his hand. Even if you figure out the rapist/killer like I did just waiting to see if the good guys find out who he is is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat...trust me! I seriously just felt a chill run down my spine from thinking about that character!

That said our heroine, Jamie Cash was one strong lady. What she had to go through at the hands of her attacker would be enough to make the strongest of people breakdown and without her faith she probably would have. In Christian fiction it almost seems that some of the heroines and heroes are perfect, they never get upset, feel distraught etc. but this gal did! She wasn't totally free of her past even after 12 years. Some days she was angry and some days she would be afraid and I really think that someone who has gone through something like Jamie had in real life would often feel those same emotions even those who rely heavily on their faith.

I've never read a book by Lynette Eason simply because I haven't been the biggest fan of suspense books till just this year. With author's like Ronie Kendig, Irene Hannon, Diann Mills and now Lynette I've changed my tune, suspense books are cool! I can't wait to get my hands on Book 1, Too Close to Home and Book 3, A Killer Among Us.

And that is so cool how you could make words invisible until they're highlighted in your post!!! Teach me your ways, O Renee! ;) Please, because that is way cool!

  3. Hey Amber, when typing your post just highlight the text you want to "dissapear" and change the color of that text to the same color as your background! Easy as pie! :-)

Suspense isn't really my favorite either but I really love it because I've read so many good stories this year.

    XOXO~ Renee
