Synopsis: Lydia Gray was married off at the tender age of 16 to a cruel, decades older widower. When an accident claims his life Lydia can't help but feel relieved. Determined to escape her older step children she heads off to Sitka, Alaska, to live with her Aunt Zerelda. While there she meets handsome and kindly, Kjell Lindquist who is unlike any man she's ever known. A discovery is made that will not allow her to leave her past behind her completely but Lydia is determined to move on. However her step children are not and will stop at nothing to gain what they consider to be rightfully theirs.

My Review: After reading about this book on cbd.com I immediately added it to my wishlist. Knowing that Tracie Peterson was such a popular author I knew it would be a long wait before I could get this book on any online trading sites so I went out and purchased it. It's been a very long time since I have had the desire to buy a book at full cover price...but I had to get this one.

Maybe it was because I had such high expectations about this book and was so excited to read it that I felt a bit of a let down after I finished it. I absolutely loved Tracie's first Alaskan based series, Yukon Quest and thought the first book in her new series would be just as good. I thought the romance between Kjell and Lydia was a bit rushed and the plot was a bit predictable. I did like Lydia and felt genuinely sorry for her and despised the villains. I wasn't bored with the story and finished it in a few sittings. The faith message was there but I just didn't feel as connected to this book as I have been with her past works. It was good but if you are going to buy a book by Ms. Peterson I suggest you start with Treasures of the North, Book 1 in the Yukon Quest series!

  1. Awww! I'm so sorry! It looks like neither of us enjoyed our last book. LOL Maybe we'll do better next time.

Actually, the one I just started today doesn't seem like it's going to be too good either???

  2. Let me join in and say that I didn't enjoy my last book, either...in fact, I couldn't even finish it!

I'm really sorry to hear that this latest Tracie Peterson offering wasn't that great for you. I've actually been looking forward to it, but I may wait awhile now before reading it.

  3. Well I knew it had to happen sooner or later, that I wouldn't like one of her books that is! I mean her others are so good I guess one book had to be just "ok"! The next one will be better i guess!

  4. Ah, I see. Yeah, Yukon Quest was better. Perhaps she is busy? Did you notice the editing errors? The doctor's wives and a mix up with Ellie and Evie? I will definitely continue the series that's for sure.

  5. Hi Margaret, thank you for stopping by! I'll probably continue with this series too simply because like I said I pretty much enjoyed everything else I've read by her. I didn't catch the errors but I'm pretty terrible at that kind of thing LOL!

  6. Hi Renee, I clicked over from Kaye's blog. I have to be honest...I haven't read a Tracie Peterson novel in a couple of years. They were starting to feel a bit "the same" to me, if that makes sense. I think my favorite series of hers was the Westward Dreams books (or as I call them, the first Harvey Girls series...LOL!).
