From the publisher:
In the harsh wilderness of colonial Massachusetts, Martha Allen works as a servant in her cousin's household, taking charge and locking wills with everyone. Thomas Carrier labors for the family and is known both for his immense strength and size and mysterious past. The two begin a courtship that suits their independent natures, with Thomas slowly revealing the story of his part in the English Civil War. But in the rugged new world they inhabit, danger is ever present, whether it be from the assassins sent from London to kill the executioner of Charles I or the wolves-in many forms-who hunt for blood.

My Review:
With all of the stories I've read set in the Old West or in regency England I felt it was time for a change so when I had the opportunity to read The Wolves of Andover by Kathleen Kent, I jumped and I'm glad I did. Set in the earliest days of America in colonial Massachusetts, it is the story of Martha Allen and Thomas Carrier. Not only is there drama, violence, and intrigue there's plenty of romance. And the wolves, well they come in two forms the furry kind and the two-legged variety which just might be the most dangerous. There were some pretty nasty fellows and they were out for revenge and to line their pockets! I didn't appreciate some of the coarse language but with some of these characters I wouldn't have expected anything else. It may not be for the most sensitive reader but if you love history this is an interesting read. Even with all the nefarious characters with underlying themes like undeniable love of freedom and family I was still able to relate to Martha and her story and enjoyed it. I will definitely have to give The Heretic's Daughter a try!
