Okay I'll admit it, I jumped on the vampire bandwagon by reading Twilight early last year and have since been hooked. Since the popularity of Twilight is ever increasing, it seems that there are many new authors writing in the paranormal/vampire romance genre. I've read a lot of the newest releases and am happy to say, for the most part I enjoyed them. When I see a vampire book at the store that looks interesting I go home and put it on my Bookmooch wishlist with hopes that it will soon become available to me...as I'm too poor to buy every book that I would like to purchase at the bookstore. When I saw The Vampire Diaries I thought, "Oh, another new book...looks interesting." I was shocked when I received it however, to learn that it was first published in 1991, nearly 15 years prior to Twilight!! Needless to say I got right down to it and started the books immediately and devoured them both in two sittings!

The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion by L.J. Smith is the companion to The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle (my review here). It continues with the story of golden-girl Elena and two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon who are bitter enemies and the evils they all must face together in the small town of Fells Church, Virginia.

Since The Struggle left me hanging I was soooo happy that I didn't have to wait long to get the next book...and it did not disappoint! L.J. Smith really shocked me with some unexpected events that I didn't think would bide well for the rest of the book but surprisingly it worked! I also loved the introduction of a werewolf, which REALLY made the story dynamic. It didn't get boring, that's for sure and I totally did NOT expect the book to end like it did but that's a good thing, 'cause who wants to be able to predict how the story is going to end?! These books are well worth the $8.99 cover price especially since you're getting 2 stories in 1 volume.

Happy Reading :-)

P.S. Did I mention that I was pleasantly surprised to learn that a 5th book was released in the series entitled Nightfall and that there are more stories to follow soon?! Yay!!! :-) Can't wait to read 'em.
