Synopsis: Claire Avery is an ER trauma nurse looking for a change of pace as a nurse educator at Sierra Mercy Hospital. Her plans to leave her own tragic past behind her are brought to the front as she is pulled in to the middle of caring for victims in a horrific daycare explosion. To top it all off she meets the director of the ER, Dr. Logan Caldwell aka Dr. McSnarly who thinks counselling hospital employees is a waste of time! Dr. Caldwell appears to live up to his nickname and is tough as nails but he can't help but admit that he is drawn to Claire. Together they have to discover what healing really is.

My Review: I love Grey's Anatomy so when I heard about Critical Care, a Christian Medical romance I knew I had to have it. I was not disappointed! I knew from the first chapter that I was going to love this book...Dr. McSnarly is a hunk, he puts Doctors McSteamy and McDreamy to shame!!!!! I loved the ER drama and after the first few pages...wow I had a tear in my eye! This book deals a lot with healing bodies but even more with healing souls. It has tragedy, crime, reconciliations, and some humor mixed in which gives it a feel of a Christian Grey's Anatomy. It isn't just the story of a hero and heroine but you also meet two other nurses, Sarah and Erin, who I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of! Even though I don't know a lot about medicine it seemed pretty well researched and just overall a great story. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes medical dramas, romance, and hunky doctors with a nice Christian theme. I can't wait to read about Erin in Disaster Status which is releasing early next year!!!!

  1. I loved Critical Care, so much so that I stayed up until 6 am one day in order to finish it. When I did, I waved it at my hubby, who was up after his full night's sleep, and said, "This is how to write a book!"

I don't generally read medical dramas, but this one caught my attention because it is set in my town of Placerville, California. That made me want to read it. Candace's fast-paced story, awesome characters and excellent writing made me want to read her next and the next and the one after that.

  2. Thanks, Renee! Now I can't wait to read Critical Care!

If you enjoyed this Christian Medical romance...you may want to try Hannah Alexander's Healing Touch trilogy. I have them, but haven't read them yet...no surprise there! The titles are:

    1. Second Opinion
    2. Necessary Measures
    3. Urgent Care

She also has a Medical Thriller trilogy...Sacred Trust:

    1. Sacred Trust
    2. Solemn Oath
    3. Silent Pledge

  5. Renee,
I'm so pleased that you "scrubbed in" with Critical Care, and truly blessed by your wonderful review--thank you so much! :-)
Keli, thank you for your comment and for your earlier review of my book on your great blog.
Cecelia, I'd love to have you on my "medical team" as well . . . there's enough McSnarly to go around!
And, Lori--absolutely, Hannah Alexander is awesome. Such a blessing to have her write an endorsement for Disaster Status, the second book in the Mercy Hospital series.

Again, Renee, thank you so much for sharing Critical Care with your readers.
