Everything Austen Challenge: Watch 1995 and 2007 Film Adaptations of Persuasion

Image
This week, to complete the challenge, I watched the 1995 version and the 2007 versions of Persuasion. I have to say that I absolutely love both versions of the film but for different reasons. I love the acting abilities of both Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root from older version of the film. The look between the two at the opera in Bath makes my spine tingle every time...wheeew there's so much emotion! The scene where Wentworth is writing a letter to Anne is terrific too and I have to say that if that scene was included in the 2007 version, it probably would have been my favorite! I really liked the 2007 version too because the actors looked more like I pictured them in the book. Who doesn't think Wentworth as played by Rupert Penry-Jones is swoon worthy?! Sally Hawkins is absolutely wonderful as Anne. Overall however I just like the way the 1995 version wrapped up and the tender kiss on the street with the circus in the background was just terrific! If you are a fan of the book I ...

That said I love just about every movie version that I have seen of Pride and Prejudice and I don't think there's a Mr. Darcy that I haven't liked! Since I've almost completed the Everything Austen Challenge by watching both the 1995 version and the 2005 film versions of the book, I've decided it was time to celebrate with a little fun. Here are my Top 3 Darcy's, two from different versions of Pride and Prejudice and one from Pride and Prejudice with a twist, Lost in Austen . Everything Austen Challenge, Book Review: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

Image
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith Copyright 2009 Quirk Books 319 pages ISBN: 978-1-59474-334-4 Fiction Synopsis: Millions of people have read Jane Austen's most beloved classic romance, Pride and Prejudice but none have read the love story of two of the most beloved characters in literature quite like this! As the story begins, a mysterious plague has torn through England and the countryside of Meryton. The dead and those who are infected have developed a taste for flesh and...well...brains! We all know that Elizabeth Bennet is a feisty, rather outspoken heroine but what we learn is that instead of practicing the delicate arts associated with being a lady she is well practiced in the fine arts of kung fu and other zombie killing methods. With the arrival of haughty Mr. Darcy...chaos ensues and so begins the dance between Darcy and Elizabeth and a few hundred unmentionables. My Review: First let me start by saying if you are a Jane Austen puris...

Everything Austen Challenge: My Favorite Austen Cover

Image
Hi everyone! I'm totally loving this whole Everything Austen Challenge! It's been great so far! I just haven't had tons of time to do as many posts as I would like! However I have been reading Pride and Prejudice again...and even introducing others to Austen who *gasp* have not heard of her books!!!!! So as I was reading Austen, I was thinking what can I possibly say about Pride and Prejudice that hasn't already been said? Well I couldn't come up with too much. Obviously most of us participating in this challenge have read everything that Miss Austen has written and read reviews (mostly good ones) for her books! I was trying to think of something fun and as I sat staring at my copy of Pride and Prejudice , I realized that I was totally in LOVE with the cover!!! I have the Wordsworth Classics Edition pictured below, isn't the cover gorgeous? The painting on the cover is a detail from A Stolen Kiss by Marcus Stone (1840-1921.) I love it because it's complet...

Everything Austen Challenge Extra!!!! Book Review: Mr. Darcy, Vampyre

Image
Amanda Grange Mr. Darcy, Vampyre Sourcebooks August 2009 308 pages ISBN 9781402236976 I saw this book and knew I had to read it, unfortunately I didn't know about it until AFTER I submitted my list of things to read/watch/review for the Everything Austen Challenge. So I'm posting this as an "extra." Have no fear I will still complete the other 5 parts of the challenge in the weeks to come! Now that I got that out of the way lets talk Mr Darcy, Vampyre ! Reading some earlier reviews of this book I knew it wasn't going to have a ton of blood and gore and that sort of thing. As a matter of fact I didn't know that Darcy was a vampire until about 2/3 of the way through the book (I suspected that he was early on...the title, duh :-P) This is basically just what could have happened to Darcy and Elizabeth on their marriage trip. Along the way Lizzy begins to wonder if she ever really knew Darcy since he doesn't seem to want to be with her despite a few spicy kisse...

Everything Austen Challenge: Lost in Austen Part II

Image
I thought I was going away this weekend but those plans fell through so I was able to watch the second half of Lost in Austen **sigh** it was a gooood weekend ;-) So from that sentence alone you can tell how much I LOVE this movie! Just a warning though, if you aren't open to messing with the story line of Pride and Prejudice you probably won't like the movie at all! This is the best romantic comedy I've seen in a long time. The second half has some VERY unexpected twists and I was getting a little worried at the the end but everything worked out like I wanted. Let's just say I NEVER would have thought to hear the words "Tinky Winky" uttered by Mr. Darcy. If you want to laugh out loud this is DEFINITELY a great movie to watch. If you haven't read Pride and Prejudice (gasp!!!!!) you probably won't get the humor at all. So if you haven't read P&P go read it, then relax and enjoy this great twist on the story!

Everything Austen Challenge: Lost in Austen Part I

Image
Lost in Austen Part I Okay I'm totally doing everything backwards for the Everything Austen Challenge . I was going to start it off by reading Pride and Prejudice but was in the mood for a movie last night so I watched part 1 of Lost in Austen (I REALLY need to get my own copy)!!! Seriously I just love this movie, I've probably watched it 3x in as many weeks...I know, I have NO life...they should have cast me in the movie as Miss Price. :-P I think we all have dreamt at one point or another what it would be like to meet the characters from Pride and Prejudice (for us girls it was probably Bingham or Darcy) and this movie shows what it might have been like! I have to say though that Mr. Darcy was a TOTAL... snob! More than I ever pictured him to be! The sisters Jane, Kitty, Lydia, and Mary were just as I always pictured them. The mother was more neurotic and annoying than I ever imagined her and poor Mr. Bennet...I felt soooo sorry for him. He was great though, I loved his rat...
