Hallelujah! Peaches Are In Season!

Image
#FuzzyOrbsOfDeliciousness  #NoFilter Remember when I was bored late last month and made these  White Almond Sour Cream Cupcakes topped with cream cheese frosting and a peach garnish ? Well, I couldn't help myself from snatching up (don't worry, I paid for them!) a few more gorgeous, fuzzy peaches from the local roadside farm stand and turn them into another sweet treat... cookies!!! Let me tell you, when peaches are in season I take full advantage. I won't buy peaches from the grocery store, because after you've had fresh picked fruit, store bought tastes like cardboard.

I was bored today...

...so I made cupcakes! I found this recipe for White Almond Sour Cream Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting a few days ago on Julie's website,  The Little Kitchen and decided to give them a try today!

(P)interesting Finds: Recipe Edition

Image
Confession: I'm a Pinterest addict. It's true, so much so that I probably  need an intervention. But do I really need an intervention if my friends and family benefit from my time spent on the site? Maybe not. Pinterest is just plain fun. I really don't know what I did before I found the site. How did I keep track of all those recipes, find great new clothes to add to my wardrobe, and bombard all my friends with Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston photos? Hehehe. However, not everything looks fun or easy, some of the things on Pinterest look iffy. Take for example the marbled nail polish that's popping up every where... yeah, I think it might take an expert to do that and I'm certainly not a mani/pedi pro. I'd hate to tell my mum that I was going to help her with a great new manicure only to end up with a smeared, goopy mess. She'd probably toss me out of the house! Kidding... my mom's totally cool, but still, why take the risk? I've tried a...

Recipe: Yummy Dessert Pizza!

Image
A few days ago for my mother's birthday I made a delicious fruit pizza. Due to the response I got on Facebook when I posted a photo of my yummy creation I decided to post the recipe here so everyone can enjoy this different take on the classic pizza pie. It's fun and easy to make. Ingredients: ~ 1 8 oz. package of cream cheese (softened) ~ 1/4 c. sugar ~ 1 package 16.5 -18oz. refrigerated sugar cookie dough ~ Fresh fruit of your choice (I used 1 lb. strawberries and about 1/4 c. of blueberries and 1 sliced kiwi) Spread the cookie dough in the bottom of an ungreased 12 to 14in. pizza pan. Bake as directed on cookie dough packaging. Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature. Blend cream cheese and sugar in medium sized bowl. Spread on cooled cookie dough. Top pizza with your cleaned and sliced fruit, refrigerate and enjoy!

Post Labor Day Fun!

Image
I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend even though I'm sure for most of you it wasn't long enough! Did you go on picnics with your friends and families, travel, or go on a short staycation? This year for the Labor Day holiday we picnicked however we didn't have a traditional picnic with hotdogs, hamburgers and baked beans. We decided to do something a little different for summer's last hoorah. We made Mountain Pies! I'm sure some of you are wondering "What in the world is a Mountain Pie?" but if you've ever camped out or been to summer camp or are just sort of a country girl like me you probably know that they can be made of just about anything! What's cool about making a Mountian Pie is that it is sooo simple and the cook time is a couple of minutes at most. We used special Mountain Pie makers like the one pictured below. You can do dessert pies, sandwich pies or whatever! We made mountain pie pizza using bread, butter, pizza sauce, shredd...

Recipe for a Quick Summer Cool Down: Easy Peach Smoothies!

Image
I know this is mainly a book blog but I also like to share some of my favorite things and peach smoothies are definitely one of my favorite things! This is quick and easy and a really inexpensive treat that I'm sure everyone will love! Ingredients: One 6 or 8oz cup of peach flavored yogurt 2 cups of ice 2-3 tablespoons of sugar 1 small can of peaches in syrup Directions: Place half of the ice in a blender. Add in the yogurt. Pour in the peaches and half of the syrup. If you use all of the syrup the smoothie will be watery. Add the sugar. Add the remainder of the ice cubes. Blend until smooth and pour in glasses and enjoy immediately! ***Makes about three 10 oz. servings. I chose to garnish my smoothie with a peach slice :-)
