Black 'n' Gold Girl's Book Spot

Today is the first Steelers playoff game of the season against the Denver Broncos. I thought it was only fitting to celebrate by paying tribute to the late, great Myron Cope. Myron was the radio voice of all things black 'n gold for decades and the sports broadcaster for Channel 4 news here in the 'Burgh. Check out this cool video of his parody of "Deck the Halls" aptly titled, "Deck the Broncos" made in 1984. Okay it's no secret that I love my Pittsburgh Steelers and it's pretty widely known that Troy Polamalu is the spokesperson...errr spokeshair for Head and Shoulders . What you may not know is that Brett Keisel, popular Steelers defensive end is known in the 'Burgh and throughout Steeler Nation for his playoff (now permanent) beard. He even has a t-shirt available depicting his rather ferocious look. Well apparently Head and Shoulders thought that Brett was giving Troy a run for his money in the luscious hair department and decided to take advantage by making this commercial. If you don't at least giggle while watching this you might want to have someone check your pulse...just sayin'. Don't you love it? Come on admit it or do I have to call you a lyin' fool? Hehehe. ;-)

In case you didn't know I'm a huge football fan and the NFL lockout was really killing me. The thought of having to live without football, especially Steelers football, for AN ENTIRE YEAR nearly did me in. The past week or so has been full of talk between owners, players and the commish himself, Roger Goodell and I was getting excited that a collective-bargaining agreement could be reached. Low and behold an agreement was reached and I could breath easier! Whew! Just in time for training camp. So in case you wanted to know I'm posting links to the Steelers training camp schedule (more complete info at a later date) and the regular season game schedule for you. :-) 2011 Training Camp start date 2011 Pre and Regular Season (Times subject to change due to flex scheduling) I know it's going to be a great year for the Steelers and I'm really looking forward to seeing all the rookies in action for the first time and the returning veterans. OMG how cool is this??!! Hines Ward, quite possibly the best wide receiver in professional football, is going to be on ABC's Dancing with the Stars !!! I'm sooooo excited since Hines is one of my favorite Steeler players. Since he's a wide receiver and as such has to make a lot of great moves on the playing field I'm thinking he's going to do great on the show, plus with all that determination and work ethic he has to go far! Chances are unless you live under a rock that you know the Steelers lost to the Packers in the Super Bowl. Needless to say that means a lot of people, myself included, will be going to bed a little sad tonight. I know it's only a game but it still gets me in the gut when "my boys" lose. Did I mention the halftime show was kinda awful???! And too top it all off the commercials this year weren't even that good! I did enjoy a few including the NFL commercial featuring classic tv shows wearing NFL gear and like last year, I enjoyed the Bridgestone tire commercials. It's that time of year again, NFL playoff season and once again my Pittsburgh Steelers are in it to win it! This Sunday the Steelers will battle the Jets in a bid for the AFC Championship trophy and a spot in the Super Bowl! If you know anything about football you know that the Super Bowl is a pretty big game and often the best part about it are the commercials ( check out some of my faves from last year ). While the commercials are fun, in the Pittsburgh area they play some great Steelers fight songs on the radio. Let me tell you, Steelers Nation consists of some pretty talented folks and once of my favorite songs is Here We Go by Roger Wood!! Even if you're not a Pittsburgh Steelers fan chances are you've seen the Head and Shoulders commercial featuring Troy Polamalu with "thicker looking hair" and laughed out loud. Well today I found the newest commercial and I gotta say it's pretty good! I'm just hoping that nobody decides to look for the "Polamolecules" by putting shampoo in their eye...ouch!

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! The official start to the NFL football season is almost upon us and the start of the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp today has me pumped!! I love my Steelers , as you can tell from the title of my blog, and was thrilled when the Steelers extended Tight End Heath Miller's contract for 5 more years. He's my favorite player on the team hence the "83" in my blog address ( soooo happy he didn't leave so I didn't have to change that number LOL )! I always seem to gravitate towards the players who get the job done but aren't necessarily the most recognized players on the team (kinda like the underdog hero in books). To me football is about playing your heart out NOT running your mouth off or trying to get recognized. Wooooohooooo!!! 2008-2009 has been a great year for my favorite sports teams the six time Super Bowl Champions, Pittsburgh Steelers and now the Stanley Cup Champions, Pittsburgh Penguins!!!! Wow...what a season!!! Earlier in the year it didn't look like the Pens were even going to make it to the playoffs, but thanks to the leadership of coach Dan Bylsma and Captain Sydney Crosby WE MADE IT!!!!!!!!!! What a job by goalie Marc Andre Fleury blocking those fierce last second shots and Forward Maxime Talbot getting Pittsburgh their 2 goals! In the words of Mike Lange (Pens announcer in Pittsburgh), "Elvis has just left the building!" Congratulations to the Stanley Cup Champs, the Pittsburgh Penguins!
