Note to my Shelfari Friends

Image
If you follow me on Shelfari please be aware that I have decided to close my Shelfari account. Goodreads is easier to use so I decided to delete my Shelfari shelves, I never really updated my page there anyway. Please consider following me on Goodreads instead if you're interested in what I'm reading. :-) Hope to see you there!

It's All Greek!

Image
Hello, Hollywood! (Backstage Pass, Book 2) by Janice Thompson Copyright 2011 Revell Books ISBN: 9780800733469 Contemporary Fiction There's just something about stories featuring big, close knit families that I love. Janice Thompson's Weddings by Bella series with the Italian Rossi clan was one of my favorites and I missed the chaos and fun of the series when it ended. I'm happy to say that if you liked that series as much as I did the second book in her new series, Backstage Pass brings back that same atmosphere of family and yummy food as her previous series. This time the family is Greek and quite possibly even more fun than the Rossi's! Did I mention that you might need a tissue--to wipe the drool off of your face from all the yumminess in the book? Baklava, gyros, and Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome...mmhmmm. Every page is filled with humor and there are a few surprising plot twists that add just the right amount of seriousness. If you are afraid that your fa...

Christian Fiction with Sizzle: The Doctor's Lady by Jody Hedlund

Image
The Doctor's Lady by Jody Hedlund Copyright 2011 Bethany House Publishers 384 pages ISBN: 9780764208331 Historical Fiction Christian fiction that sizzles--you might be thinking, "Huh? Is there such a thing?" Well I'm very glad to say that there is! It seems with all the great new authors popping up on the Christian fiction scene there's a new trend towards more "realistic" romance. Don't get me wrong I love a "sweet" story as much as the next gal but I also love a romance with a bit more conflict (who doesn't argue with a loved one?) and a bit of passion (what good is a relationship/marriage without it?) as long as it's tastefully done. There are quite a few talented new authors that combine great stories of faith with awesome messages and have the ability to weave a toe-tingling romance throughout. One of these inspy writers is Jody Hedlund. You might think with titles such as The Preacher's Bride and The Doctor'...

Blog Tour: Kiss of Night by Debbie Viguie

Image
Kiss of Night by Debbie Viguie Copyright 2011 FaithWords ISBN:9780446570862 It's that time of year again when the trick-or-treaters come knocking on your door and the bitter chill of winter is just around the corner. It's the perfect time of year for spooky stories of the paranormal and supernatural persuasion. This Fall I'm happy to say at least one of the many new releases is worth reading. I've never read a book by Debbie Viguie but I've seen her names on some pretty well-known titles like Charmed and Crusade . I was a bit skeptical going into this story being as I've only read one Christian fiction vampire story that I liked but I'm glad all the worry was for naught. Kiss of Night is terrific, it grabs you by the throat and doesn't let up (yes this review will be full of vampire cliches). For those of you who don't like "edgy" fiction this probably isn't for you but if you're up for a twist on the traditional vampire ...

Blog Tour: Highland Sanctuary by Jennifer Hudson Taylor

Image
Highland Sanctuary by Jennifer Hudson Taylor If you're a fan of Christian fiction or romances set in the Scottish highlands and read them as often as I do you are always looking for new authors in the genre. Last May I discovered new author Jennifer Hudson Taylor through her sweet inspirational, Highland Blessings (currently free for Kindle download! ) and I became an immediate fan. This time she once again takes us back to the Highlands with the second book in the series, Highland Sanctuary . You won't be disappointed and the great thing is you do not need to have read Highland Blessings to get this story! First things first when it comes to this book--discussing the heroine. Yes, I always make it a point to say whether or not I liked the heroine and hero of the romances that I read pointing out things like character flaws, attitude, and whether or not they're unique. This time I can say that Serena Boyd is one of the most unique and interesting of any Christian fic...

Review (Christian Fiction): A Most Unsuitable Match by Stephanie Grace Whitson

Image
A Most Unsuitable Match by Stephanie Grace Whitson Copyright 2011 Bethany House Publishers 336 pages ISBN: 978-0-7642-0881-2 Historical Fiction From the publisher : Miss Fannie Rousseau is a young woman of privilege traveling west to uncover the truth behind a family secret. Mr. Samuel Beck is on a mission to atone for past failures that still haunt him. Their meeting aboard a steamboat to Montana sparks an unlikely attraction. They are opposites in every way... except in how neither one can stop thinking about the other. Will the end of the journey bring the end of their relationship, or is it just the beginning? My Review: ~2.5 stars~ This summer has been the year for great historical reads and last summer was a great time to be a reader too. I enjoyed Stephanie Grace Whitson's 2010 release,  Sixteen Brides  however this book left a lot to be desired. From the back cover copy and all of the reviews I had read I was expecting a lot of drama and a great plo...
